EMPRESS YOU ARE SOVEREIGN

Being an "EmployedPreneur" (AKA one who has a W2 appointment and also works for herself) is not always easy but is indeed fulfilling. I love what I do in higher education, managing projects that integrate technology into physical and virtual classrooms, research, administration, and more - BUT at my core I am a helper and teacher who loves using experiences to encourage others to be all that they were created to be.

My business owner journey began during the Fall of 2020 with ICF training to become a life and executive coach during the COVID-19 worldwide shelter in place order. Not only did I start my own coaching business, I wrote my first book. Then I secured a business coach to help me to properly build my business and brand. My amazing coach who runs focused not only on business process but the whole woman. She encourged us to take one day for selfcare. She called it her Fridays "Queen day", where no work on the business takes place and she treated herself like a queen. Most ladies took that day to go to spa, relax, etc.

As one who works a 9-5 and then tends to my business from 5-9; I began to set monthly "Empress Days" for myself. It's a take on Dr. Maya Angelou's recommendation that everyone take 24 hours at least once a year to go away where we know no one and do nothing. I'd done it for myself 1-3 times a year when my son was small. It helped me to reset when being a young mother pulled me off my center. I would return feelin refreshed and ready for my mommy duties with love. My coach's emphasis on remembering who we are "Queens" who deserved to be treated royally took me back to January 2020.

I touched down in Jamaica for my 50th birthday celebration ready to enjoy the next 5 days of tours and lounging at our luxurious six villa compound. From the moment we were seated at the outdoor airport restaurant awaiting friends who were flying into Montego Bay I was addressed as "Empress". I soon realized that it was my microlocs that set me apart.

They called to me at the beach, folks selling their wares, gentlemen requesting to be excused as they squeezed by us - I heard the title "Empress" over and over again.

While I'm probably the rare non-smoking Marley fan, I was "Empress" as I walked the Nine Mile property of Bob Marley's childhood home and place of burial. I gave myself permission to settle into my royalty and celebrate as the Empress that I AM. 2 month later the world shut down under the COVID19 pandemic.

Over the next two years I built programs in my business that reinforced need for black women to remember who they are: Royalty deserving of rest and all that they dream to be, do, see, and have.

My Dream Aloud! brand helped women to pivot and remember that they are the Empress and CEO of their lives and livelihood. When we realize we are royalty and exercise our sovereignty to build our own empire on our own terms.

It all starts with a decision to not only remember who we are, but to walk in our sovereign power to determine our future and demand only the best because we are royalty.

My first luxury retreat was entitle "I AM ROYALTY" it was for queens who were building new businesses or new offers to focus on themselves and their next moves in a mansion while they were treated as the royalty they truly are.

The term that "I can show you better than I can tell you" was the foundation of the experience that was curated for that retreat. They were shown how productivity increased when outside distractions were cleared, luxury from amazing food to private upscale suites were the norm, and they only needed to relax, rest, and focus.

Now, the attendees didn't just show up to the retreat and indulge, there was preparation weeks before so that they had already given themselves permission to let go of their responsibilities, take off their savior capes, and allow someone to take care of them for once.

While writing this blog entry I went back in to my archives and recovered the "Empress Regnant Cache" that I created for clients as a toolkit or more properly and arsenal of mindset mantras and quotes for the female monarch who reigns in her own right.

Let me remind you that your Royalty and You Are Sovereign! Address yourself as such.

Be it Empress, Queen, Monarch, etc. Whatever title you choose know that your or the one who can declare and decree what you want in your life.
