Things I've learned traveling between JFK and ATL during the government shutdown:
1. TSA agents are still working quite hard without pay.
2. JFK did not have a separate line for TSA Pre
at 3:30 AM ( they did allow us with pre-check credentials to go through the metal detector instead of the body scanner).
3. Although I knew Frontier Airlines' seats do not recline I don't remember them being so hard!
4. There were no rental cars available in ATL because travelers are skipping flights and driving where they want to go.
5. I didn't see any flight cancelations but many were delayed (including mine by an hour)
6. Wait times for entry into airport lounges were 1hr at the least because those already inside took their full 3 hour allotment of time due to delayed flights. Internal flights were prioritized on the wait list.
7. The Priority lounge in ATL terminal F has a grab and go offer ( a mini convenience store type space for sandwiches, beverages, ice cream and other novities.)
8. WiFi and cellular reception in terminal F was horrible.
9. If you're delayed in ATL, skip the sky train and walk the history line corridor between terminals - you have nothing but time.
Bonus Info:
10. New Jersey Transit's bus takes 2 hrs 35 minutes to get to NYC from A.C. with a stop in Tom's River. No need to change buses.
11. Greyhound was $7 less than NJ Transit with newer more comfy seats. The schedule says it a 2 hr 35 minute drive... we arrived at Ceasars 40 minutes early.
12. Ceasars gives $15 credit to Greyhound riders 21 and over. Who knew A.C. casinos still did this?!
